Thermoplastic Polyolefin

Apex Polymer Solutions (formerly trading as Perspex SA) has been focusing on innovation & new product development in the hope of extending our locally manufactured product offering to the South African market.

TPO is one of the materials that we have recently launched into the market. It is a speciality blend of PP (polypropylene) and EPDM rubber and polyethylene. The material has higher impact resistance and a lower density. The material is generally much softer than standard PP or PE and has lower shore hardness <80. These materials are known as Thermoplastic olefin or thermoplastic polyolefin. Fillers and additives are added to ensure optimal performance of the material.

 

  • Better impact resistance, especially at lower temperatures
  • Lightweight compared to TPU’s
  • Chemical resistant
  • Lower shore hardness
  • Very flexible and can be more easily manipulated
  • Easily vacuum formed
  • Soft-touch
  • The material does not need to be dried before use, which saves time
  • Vacuum forming applications into the automotive industry
  • Automotive bumpers and dashboards
  • Automotive flooring for industrial vehicles and bakkies (pick-up trucks)
  • Soft-touch requirements
  • Hardness: 80
  • Density: 1.1
